Snapchat is one of the most popular social networking apps available today, and has garnered a loyal base of customers – allowing users to send a Snap to their friends and family wherever they are in the world from their mobile device. Several new features have been introduced to the program since Snapchat was first launched, the most recent being video chat, which will allow you to communicate with loved ones in a brand new way. You will be able to converse in real time face-to-face – so now there’s no more excuses for not checking in with a friend to see how they’ve been. This article tells you how to update Snapchat video chat.
1. Checking that your app has been updated
Although Snapchat announced all of its users will be able to take advantage of new video chat features, the service is being rolled out slowly, so it may take some time before you are able to use the new features on your mobile. However, you can check to see if your app has been fully updated by opening the program from the home screen of your smartphone or mobile device. Wait a few seconds for the app to load, and then check to see if you have received a promotional Snap from the develops of the app. You will be able to use the new features straight away if the promotional message tells you to tap the screen twice to launch the update.
2. Updating the app
If you have received the promotional Snap, you will need to tap the screen twice to take advantage of the brand new features. You will then be taken to the App store, where you will then be able to download the new update. Just like when downloading any new app update onto your device, you may be prompted for your username and password. You will then need to wait for the updated app to download onto your device. This can take a little bit of time, so be patient – and remember, you can’t use the app in the meantime.
3. Sending a Snap using the updated app
Once the app has been updated, click on the app on the home screen of your device and wait for it to load up. Enter you log in details, and once done, you should end up on the landing page. Click on your contacts and to view a conversation, swipe to the right on the person’s name. If you and your contact both have the Snapchat app open and are both connected to WiFi, you will be able to video chat. Have a look on the button above the keyboard on your device. If it is yellow, it means that you are not ready to have a video chat with your contact, but you can still send a snap with text by clicking on this yellow button, or by tapping Send like before. If the button is blue, it means that both you and your contact are connected to the internet and have your Snapchat app open – allowing you to communicate via video chat.
